The consumer confidence indicator for Portugal worsened to -16.2 in August 2025 from -15.7 in the previous month. Consumers expressed increased pessimism about the economic situation over the past twelve months (-35.7 vs -34.1 in July), while expectations for the next twelve months (-25.6 vs -20) declined notably. At the same time, consumers became more negative about the timing for major purchases (-58 vs -54.3), while expectations for household financial conditions over the next year (-3.7% vs -0.4%) also worsened. Meanwhile, perceptions of households’ financial situation over the past year remained unchanged (-10.7).
