The Ibovespa lost 0.2% to hover below 138,000 on Wednesday as investors await remarks from Brazil’s Finance Minister Fernando Haddad and central bank chief Gabriel Galipolo. On the data front, the FGV IBRE industrial confidence index fell 4.4 points in August to 90.4, while total outstanding credit rose 0.4% in July from June, according to the central bank. Abroad, attention focused on Nvidia’s earnings due later today, seen as a test for Wall Street’s tech-led rally. Meanwhile, concerns over the Fed’s independence persisted after a lawyer for Governor Lisa Cook said he would challenge President Donald Trump’s decision to dismiss her. On the corporate front, banks traded mixed (Itau Unibanco -0.6%, Banco do Brasil +0.3%), Petrobras fell 0.7%, while Vale added 0.9% and Ambev 0.5%.
