26 August 2025, 23:09  United Kingdom: 10-Year Gilt Yield Surges Toward 3-Month High.

The UK 10-year gilt yield climbed to 4.744%, near its highest since May, as markets reopened after the bank holiday and tracked US moves higher. In the US, bond sentiment was shaken by Trump’s vow to remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook over alleged misconduct, raising concerns about Fed independence. At home, BoE policymaker Catherine Mann said monetary policy is “not tight enough,” stressing inflation persistence and backing a longer hold on rates, though she would support larger cuts if downside risks grow. Mann, who opposed rate cuts in May and August, argued for keeping the benchmark higher for longer. The yield jump adds pressure on Chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of the autumn budget, since higher borrowing costs make it harder to stick to fiscal rules and increase the burden of servicing debt. Meanwhile, UK 30-year yields rose to near their highest since 1998 again.
