26 August 2025, 01:23 South Korea: Consumer Morale Hits Highest Level Since 2017
South Korea’s Composite Consumer Sentiment Index rose to 111.4 in August 2025, up 0.6 points from July and marking its highest level since December 2017. Confidence was supported by strong exports and government measures aimed at reducing trade uncertainty, while easing inflation helped temper concerns over rising prices. Sentiment toward current living standards improved to 96, two points higher than July, though the outlook remained steady at 101. Expectations for household income and spending were unchanged at 102 and 111, respectively. Views on current domestic economic conditions strengthened to 93, a seven-point gain, but optimism about future conditions eased to 100, down six points from the prior month. Inflation expectations held stable, with consumers projecting 2.6% over the next year and 2.5% for both three- and five-year horizons.
