20 August 2025, 14:25 Greece: Current Account Turns to Deficit.
Greeceās current account posted a deficit of EUR 1.18 billion in June 2025, reversing from a surplus of EUR 0.27 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. The shift was mainly driven by a widening deficit seen in the goods account, which grew to EUR 3.16 billion from 2.48 billion a year earlier, with exports dropping 7.7%, while imports rising 5.5%. Additionally, the primary income shortfall rose to EUR 0.97 billion from EUR 0.31 billion, as well as the secondary income gap to EUR 0.27 billion from EUR 0.09 billion. Meanwhile, the services account surplus expanded to EUR 3.22 billion from EUR 3.13 billion, primarily due to an improvement in the travel balance and, to a lesser extent, other services. In the first half of 2025, the current account deficit decreased to EUR 7.6 billion, compared to EUR 8.29 billion in the same period last year.
