19 August 2025, 13:36  Hong Kong: Jobless Rate Climbs to Over 2-

Hong Kong’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 3.7% in the three months ending July 2025, up from 3.5% in the previous period, marking the highest level since the three months to November 2022. The number of unemployed increased by 8,800 to a two-and-a-half-year high of 145,000, while total employment grew by 14,000 to 3.67 million. Jobless rates rose in several key sectors, notably foundation and superstructure, food and beverage services, retail, and real estate. Youth unemployment (ages 20–29) rose to 7.3%, the highest since November 2022, from 6.8% in June. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate edged up to 57% from 56.7%. Looking ahead, sustained economic growth is expected to boost job creation, providing more opportunities for fresh graduates and school leavers. While unemployment will continue to vary across industries, government measures to stimulate growth, support consumption, and attract investment should underpin overall labor demand.
