18 August 2025, 23:12 USA: Treasury Yields Hold Amid Trump-Zelensky Meeting.
The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note held above 4.3% on Monday, as investors weighed a high-profile meeting in Washington between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and looked ahead to the Federal Reserve’s Jackson Hole symposium later this week. In the Oval Office, Trump expressed optimism about a swift peace, pledged US security support, and said he would call Russian President Vladimir Putin after talks with Zelensky and European leaders, underscoring the meeting’s geopolitical and market significance. Following his Friday talks with Putin, no ceasefire breakthrough was reached, but Russia agreed to let the US and Europe provide Ukraine with robust security guarantees as part of a potential peace deal. On monetary policy, markets price in an 83% chance of a 25 basis point Fed rate cut in September, though stronger-than-expected producer inflation and retail sales have dampened hopes for a larger 50 basis point move.
