18 August 2025, 05:13  Australia: Shares Hit Fresh Record High.

The S&P/ASX 200 edged up by 0.1% to a new record high of 8,944 on Monday, as investors digested a wave of corporate earnings and looked ahead to more major reports later in the week. Among the notable movers, Lendlease jumped 3.3% to its highest level since June after returning to an annual profit and announcing an increase in its FY distribution. GPT Group rose 2.3% to a peak not seen since January 2022, buoyed by a return to H1 profitability driven by gains in property valuations. In addition, Aurizon Holdings gained 1.4% despite a drop in annual profit, with a share buyback plan and upbeat earnings outlook boosting investor sentiment. Ampol edged 0.2% higher after posting a better-than-expected H1 2025 report. On the geopolitical front, investor attention remained focused on the evolving US tariff measures following the Trump administration’s move to expand its 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum to cover hundreds more products, set to take effect today, August 18.
