15 August 2025, 17:26 Brazil: Ibovespa Dips on Bank Losses and Ukraine Risks.
The Ibovespa edged lower to around 136,000 on Friday, as investors focused on corporate results and the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the war in Ukraine. Banco do Brasil dropped more than 3% after it reported its lowest profit in nearly five years, cutting its dividend after accounting changes forced higher provisions for loan losses, while adjusted profit fell 60% year-on-year in Q2. Cosan (+0.7%) posted Q2 adjusted EBITDA of R$2.83 billion, up 19% from a year earlier. Marfrig (+3.8%) recorded a net profit of R$85.2 million, a 13% rise from Q2 2024. Other major banks also fell, with Itau and Bradesco trading lower. Raw materials giants were also down as Petrobras and Vale tracked their commodity benchmarks lower.
