13 August 2025, 16:31  South Africa: Retail Sales Growth Slows in June.

South Africa's retail sales rose by 1.6% year-on-year in June 2025, moderating from a 4.3% surge in the prior month. Sales moderated for textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods (4.6% vs 12.6% in May) and other retailers (2.3% vs 3%), while declining for food, beverages, and tobacco (-4.5% vs -2.4%) and general dealers (-0.2% vs 3.4%). Meanwhile, faster increases were seen for household furniture, appliances and equipment (6.9% vs 6.8%); pharmaceuticals and medical goods, cosmetics and toiletries (4.2% vs 1.7%) and hardware, paint and glass (5.4% vs 1.8%). On a monthly basis, retail sales were flat, after increasing by 0.2% in the prior month. Retail trade sales advanced by 3.7% in the second quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter of 2024.
