13 August 2025, 08:26  India: Market Regulator Plans to Further Ease Regulations for Foreign Investors.

India’s market regulator plans to further simplify regulations for foreign investors to attract long-term capital flows into the country, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said in its annual report published on Tuesday. Last week, SEBI proposed a single-window clearance system and streamlined access to India's securities markets for foreign investors - such as government-owned investment firms, sovereign wealth funds, and pooled investment vehicles targeting retail investors - who fall under the low-risk category. The regulator also announced plans to conduct a comprehensive review to rationalize and optimize existing regulations this year. To ease the compliance burden, the focus will be on identifying and removing regulatory redundancies, the annual report added. Earlier this month, SEBI also proposed simplified disclosure norms and required shareholder approval for low-value transactions between related parties or interconnected entities.
