The CPI in the US increased 0.2% month-over-month in July 2025, slightly below 0.3% in June which was the highest in five months, matching market expectations. The index for shelter rose 0.2% and was the primary driver. Other increases were also seen for medical care (0.7%), airline fares (4%), recreation (0.4%), household furnishings and operations (0.4%), and used cars and trucks (0.5%). On the other hand, the food index was unchanged over the month and energy costs fell 1.1%, led by a 2.2% decline in gasoline. Other decreases were also recorded for lodging away from home and communication.
