Malta’s trade deficit widened to EUR 426.8 million in June 2025 from EUR 350.6 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. This marked the largest trade shortfall since August last year, as imports rose while exports dropped. Meanwhile, exports declined by 2.2% to EUR 371.7 million, dragged down by lower shipments of capital goods and others (-46.8%) and fuels & lubricants (-1.8%). Considering the first half of the year, the country’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 1,926.8 million from EUR 1,971.8 million in the same period a year earlier.
