Japan’s unemployment rate held steady at 2.5% in June 2025 for the fourth consecutive month, aligning with market estimates. The number of unemployed remained at a three-month low of 1.72 million, while employment fell by 50 thousand to 68.32 million. The labor force declined by 40 thousand to 70.04 million, and those outside the labor force dropped by 50 thousand to 39.57 million. The non-seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate increased to 64.2% from 63.7% a year earlier, marking the highest level since June 1998. Meanwhile, the jobs-to-applicants ratio eased to 1.22, below consensus of 1.25, hitting its lowest level since March 2022.
