1 August 2025, 10:31  USA: Trump Signs Executive Order to Enforce New Tariff Rates.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday imposing new tariff rates ranging from 10% to 41% on imports from dozens of countries and regions, effective August 1. The move formalizes a series of tariff announcements issued over the past month via letters and social media. Key rates include 25% on U.S.-bound exports from India, 20% from Taiwan, 30% from South Africa, 35% on Canadian goods (up from 25%), and 50% on imports from Brazil. While Trump struck negotiated deals with partners such as the EU, U.K., Japan, and South Korea, others faced unilateral increases. The White House described the action as part of a broader reciprocal trade strategy aimed at leveling the playing field for American exporters. The rollout had been delayed twice to allow for further negotiations. The executive order also faces legal challenges, with a federal appeals court currently reviewing the scope of the president’s authority to impose such widespread trade measures.
