6 June 2025, 14:49  Austria: Trade Balance Swings to Deficit in March.

Austria’s trade balance shifted to a shortfall of EUR 0.89 billion in March 2025 compared to a surplus of EUR 0.39 billion in the same month a year ago, as imports jumped while exports fell. Imports rose 7.6% year-on-year to EUR 17.5 billion, driven primarily by a 12.6% increase in chemical products, which more than offset a 6.6% slump in fuels and energy. Imports grew for non-EU countries (+15.7%), as well as for EU countries (+3.8%). Conversely, exports decreased by 0.3% to EUR 16.6 billion mainly due to lower shipments of chemical products (-13.1%), notably medical and pharmaceutical goods; and machinery & vehicles (-2.2%). While exports to non-EU countries dropped 8.6%, shipments to EU countries increased by 3.9%.
