26 June 2025, 21:44 France: Stocks Steady Ahead of US Tariff Deadline.
The CAC 40 registered no variation, closed stable at 7,557 points on Thursday, after falling 0.8% the day before, with investors balancing relief at the ceasefire between Israel and Iran and caution in the face of the US tariff deadline. With the truce between Israel and Iran helping to contain geopolitical risks, investors' focus turned to trade negotiations in the face of the July 9th deadline imposed by the Trump administration for agreements to avoid new tariffs. At the same time, NATO's decision to raise its defense spending target to 5% of GDP by 2035, under pressure from the US, favored stocks in the military sector, while the drop in oil prices weighed on the energy segment. On the corporate front, there was a balance between increases and decreases, with positive reactions from defense stocks such as Thales (+3.0%), and also Edenred (+6.8%), while Carrefour (-7.5%) and EssilorLuxottica (-2.7%) were among the main negative variations.
