24 June 2025, 20:10 Italy: FTSE MIB Rises as Ceasefire and Eurozone Outlook Lift Sentiment.
The FTSE MIB rose 1.6% to close at 39,474 on Tuesday, tracking European gains after a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was announced by US President Trump. Fed Chair Powell told Congress the Fed was in no hurry to cut rates, while S&P projected Eurozone growth to rebound from 0.8% in 2025 to 1.4% by 2027 despite greater tariff effects. Buzzi (+6.8%) and Unicredit (+4%) gained on easing tensions. Monte dei Paschi (+7%) and Mediobanca (+4.2%) also rose after the ECB approved MPS’s surprise takeover bid, part of a broader wave of banking consolidation as Rome cuts its MPS stake. In contrast, Eni (-2.5%), Tenaris (-2.4%), and Saipem (-2.1%) fell as oil prices declined. Campari lost 1.9%.
