24 June 2025, 13:08 Poland: Retail Sales Growth Slows in May.
Retail sales in Poland rose by 4.4% year-on-year in May 2025, slowing from a 7.6% increase in April, which was the strongest growth since May 2022. The latest reading was in line with market expectations. Sales slowed down for food, beverages and tobacco (1.5% vs 9.7% in April), pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and orthopaedic equipment (6% vs 7.5%), textiles, clothing and footwear (4.7% vs 8.4%), and newspapers, books, and other sale in specialized stores (3.5% vs 3.9%). Additionally, sales of other products dropped further (-10.8% vs -6%). Meanwhile, sales continued to rise for motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts (15.7% vs 14.9%), solid, liquid and gaseous fuels (4.9% vs 1.6%), and furniture, radio, tv and household appliances (18.9% vs 13.2%). On a monthly basis, retail sales declined by 3.2% in May, reversing a 6.2% growth in April.
