2 June 2025, 20:27 Italy: FTSE MIB Falls as Trade Tensions Weigh on Markets.
The FTSE MIB dropped 0.2% to close at 39,984 on Monday, in line with losses across European markets amid persistent trade and geopolitical tensions. Sentiment was weighed down by new comments from US President Donald Trump, who accused China of breaching a past trade agreement - claims swiftly denied by Beijing. Trump also announced a doubling of tariffs on steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%, prompting the EU to vow countermeasures ahead of this week’s ECB meeting. All major indexes in Milan and other European exchanges closed in the red, while Wall Street also showed signs of caution. In Italy, infrastructure, engineering, and healthcare stocks led the losses. Among the worst performers were Stellantis (-4.96%), Iveco Group (-3.9%), Campari (-2.58%), and STMicroelectronics (-1.9%).
