The US Labor Department reported Thursday that for the week ended on 5 January new applications for the unemployment benefits grew by 4.000 to total of 371.000 at a seasonally adjusted level. That uprise was the highest in a month.
The continuing claims fell by 127.000 to a seasonally adjusted level of 3.1 million in the week ended Dec. 29.
