After seeing considerable volatility in recent weeks, first-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits showed a relatively modest decrease in the week ended November 24th, according to a report released by the Labor Department on Thursday. The report said jobless claims dipped to 393,000, a decrease of 23,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 416,000. Economists had expected jobless claims to fall to 390,000 from the 410,000 originally reported for the previous week.
