5 January 2012, 17:50  OECD: November, Annual inflation 3.1% vs 3.2%

Consumer price inflation in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) area slowed for the second straight month in November, reflecting mainly slower growth in energy prices, latest data showed Thursday. Annual inflation eased modestly to 3.1 percent in November from 3.2 percent in October. Inflation slowed for the second consecutive month. Prices of energy products rose at a slower rate of 11.7 percent than the previous month's 12.4 percent growth, contributing to the slowdown in the overall inflation. The growth in food prices remained unchanged at 4.2 percent during the month. In the United Kingdom, inflation eased to 4.8 percent in November from 5 percent in October, while in the United States, it slowed to 3.4 percent from 3.5 percent. In Germany, the rate of inflation was 2.4 percent in November, weaker than the previous month's 2.5 percent. In France inflation quickened to 2.5 percent from 2.3 percent. Meanwhile, in Japan consumer prices dropped 0.5 percent year-on-year, faster than the 0.2 percent decrease seen in October. On a monthly basis, consumer prices in the OECD area edged up 0.1 percent in November, slower than October's 0.2 percent rise.
