German consumer sentiment is set to improve in December, survey data from the market research group GfK revealed Monday. The forward-looking consumer confidence rose to 5.6 points from a revised value of 5.4 points in November. The index stayed well above the expected reading of 5.2 points. While there was a considerable improvement in the willingness to buy, economic and income expectations recorded a decline in November. The economic expectations dropped 1 point in November to -7.2 points. An index for income expectations slipped 5.4 points to 31.1 points in November. The decline was led by weaker economic prospects. Despite a fall in income expectations, the willingness to buy climbed 9.1 points on the previous month to 40.3 points.
