29 July 2008, 17:54  Germany: July, Preliminary CPI 0.6% m/m

Consumer prices in Germany rose 0.6 percent in July from June and were up 3.3 percent from a year earlier, preliminary data from the Federal Statistics Office showed. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial News had forecast the month-on-month growth rate at 0.5 percent and the year-on-year increase at 3.4 percent. In June, the CPI rate was up 3.3 percent from a year earlier and at 0.3 percent month-on-month. The results are based on figures from six federal states. The statistics office also said the preliminary harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) in July was up 3.4 percent year-on-year and rose 0.6 percent month-on-month. The HICP year-on-year rate for June was 3.4 percent, it said. Final consumer price figures for June will be published on August 14, the statistics office said.
