The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development said it does not expect any dramatic reduction in oil prices from current levels. "We are not envisaging a very dramatic reduction. We may see some easing but ... there are many uncertainties to do with the supply side," OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria told journalists. Gurria said that whereas speculation is a factor in the sharp rise in food prices, oil prices are being driven by fundamental factors. "This is not a speculative spike, which is part of the problem in the case of food. This is a basic problem of supply and demand," he said. He said the OECD expects food prices to decline from their present levels, but said they are still expected to be 10-50 percent higher on average in the next 10 years than they were in the last decade. Gurria was speaking at the OECD Forum, a conference which runs alongside the annual OECD ministerial meeting.
