2 October 2006, 10:53  Japan Abe: Hope BOJ To Support Econ With Suitable Policy

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday he wants the Bank of Japan to take monetary policy steps that support the economy. "I expect that the BOJ will support the economy with its policy," Abe told lawmakers in the Lower House of the Diet. Abe's comments come after the BOJ's tankan business sentiment survey for September showed that the mood among large manufacturers improved more than expected. Many economists and analysts say Abe and other members of his cabinet are likely to pressure the BOJ to keep interest rates on hold, because the government is pursuing policies that support economic expansion
