A proposal to provide settlement services for securities transactions in central bank money on a single, euro-zone wide platform has the support of the financial market, a European Central Bank board member said Wednesday. ECB Executive Board member Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerell said there was a "a very favorable first reception" to the idea to evaluate opportunities to establish this platform. Tumpel-Gugerell spoke after the ECB met with central securities depositories, or CSDs, and other market participants, including banks to discuss the ECB's proposal. Her remarks were embargoed until Thursday.
