Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown today made the two outstanding appointments to the Bank of England's rate setting panel, ending months of speculation. The two are Tim Besley, professor of economics and political science at the London School of Economics and Andrew Sentance, chief Economist and head of environmental affairs at British Airways. The appointments take the Monetary Policy Committee back up to nine from seven at present. Besley will be appointed with effect from Sept 1 and Sentance Oct 1.
