19 June 2006, 13:53  Euro zone April trade deficit 2.0 bln eur vs revised March surplus of 0.6

The euro zone posted an unadjusted trade deficit of 2.0 bln eur in April compared with a revised surplus of 0.6 bln eur in March and a year-earlier surplus of 1.6 bln, EU statistics agency Eurostat said. Eurostat had initially estimated a March surplus of 1.2 bln eur. In April, euro zone exports totalled 107.8 bln eur, while imports were 109.8 bln. The figures compared with March exports of 121.6 bln eur and imports of 121.0 bln. The euro zone recorded a seasonally adjusted deficit of 0.9 bln eur in April compared with a March deficit of 0.3 bln. Economists polled by AFX News had forecast a seasonally adjusted deficit of 1.0 bln eur. Eurostat had earlier reported a March surplus of 0.3 bln eur. In April, exports rose a seasonally adjusted 1.6 pct from March, while imports were up 2.0 pct.
