31 May 2006, 10:00  Japan April orders received by 50 largest contractors up 2.7 pct year-on-year

The value of construction orders received last month by the 50 largest contractors in Japan rose 2.7 pct year-on-year to 815.3 bln yen, having declined the month before, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said. Domestic private-sector orders rose 0.5 pct last month to 659.7 bln yen, increasing for the third straight month, while public-sector orders rose 12.6 pct to 89.3 bln yen, rising for the first time in four months. Orders from overseas were up 37.7 pct at 23.7 bln yen and other miscellaneous orders rose 4.8 pct to 42.5 bln yen, the ministry said.
