11 May 2006, 13:56  Japan MOF Hosokawa: Will take proper FX steps as needed

The Japanese Finance Ministry's top bureaucrat said Thursday that Tokyo will closely watch and take steps as it sees fit in currency markets. "Watching very closely, we will deal with it appropriately," Vice Finance Minister Koichi Hosokawa told a regular press conference. He reiterated that the basis for Japan's foreign exchange policy is the statement from last month's Group of Seven financial officials that called for currencies to reflect economic fundamentals and for cooperation as needed.
