28 April 2006, 12:27  French April consumer confidence indicator -27 vs -26 in March

A composite indicator of consumer confidence fell to -27 in April from -26 in March on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to a monthly survey carried out by statistics office Insee. A consensus forecast of economists polled by AFX News was for the index to improve to -25. The gross index was unchanged in April from March, at -27. The indicator represents the balance in percentage points between consumers having experienced, or expecting, a rise in their living standard and those seeing a decline. The seasonally adjusted indicator on consumers' past personal financial situation was unchanged at -18, while the outlook for personal finances rose to -3 in April from -4 in March. The French standard of living was unchanged at -60, and the outlook for the French standard of living dropped to -41 in April from -38 in March. The Insee indicator showing the inclination to buy consumer goods rose to -10 in April from -13 in March.
