European Central Bank (ECB) board member Lorenzo Bini Smaghi said the central bank is ready to increase interest rates to fend off inflation if economic recovery in the euro zone continues and strengthens. Bini Smaghi made the comment when asked in an interview with the Italian daily Il Messaggero if the central bank will raise interest rates by 0.25 percentage points in June as expected by economists.
