The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development said its composite leading indicator (CLI) rose to 106.3 in January from a revised 106.0 in December The December figure was previously given as 106.3 The OECD said analysis of the CLI data continues to point to moderate growth in the advanced economies in the period ahead "Moderate expansion lies ahead in the OECD area," it said The CLI summarises information contained in a number of key short-term indicators known to be linked to GDP and provides early signals of turning points between expansions and slowdowns in economic activity, the OECD said Such turning points are highlighted by the so-called six-month rate of change in the CLI, which compares the current month's CLI figure with the average of the previous 12 months The six-month rate of change showed an annualised increase of 3.4 pct in January after an increase of 3.2 pct in December, the ninth consecutive improvement in the figure The CLI for the euro zone rose 0.5 points to 108.0, led by Germany, whose CLI climbed 0.8 points to 112.0 The Japan CLI also added 0.5 points at 101.2 But the US indicator declined to 105.9 from 106.0 and its six-month rate of change weakened for the first time since April 2005 The UK's CLI added 0.1 points at 99.8
