U.S. stocks opened higher Monday, with the third-quarter earnings seasons set to kick off after the close with Alcoa Inc.'s report, as International Business Machines shares shot higher on an upgrade. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 21.13 points at 10,313.44, the S&P 500 up 0.29 at 1,196.19 and the Nasdaq composite up 1.50 at 2,091.85. IBM was up 1.3% at $81.53.
