6 September 2005, 13:57  OECD leaves US 2005 GDP growth forecast at 3.6 pct, hikes euro zone to 1.3

The OECD left its forecast for US GDP growth this year unchanged at 3.6 pct in estimates that do not take into account the impact of hurricane Katrina on the world's largest economy. In an interim economic assessment, the OECD raised its forecasts for euro zone growth this year to 1.3 pct from 1.2 pct and for Japan to 1.8 pct from 1.5 pct. It lowered its 2005 forecast for UK growth to 1.9 pct from 2.4 pct. In the euro zone, the OECD lowered its forecast for German growth this year to 1.0 pct from 1.2 pct, but raised its forecasts for French growth to 1.6 pct from 1.4 pct and for Italian growth to 0.2 pct from a contraction of 0.6 pct.
