7 July 2005, 13:30  Japan June machine tool orders rise 6.9 pct from May

The value of orders for machine tools rose 6.9 pct in June from May to 114.89 bln yen, according to a preliminary survey by the Japan Machine Tool Builders' Association (JMTBA). Year-on-year, orders last month added 10.6 pct, making the 33rd straight monthly increase, the JMTBA said. Domestic orders in June rose 8.9 pct month-on-month to 62.39 bln yen, and gained 6.6 pct from a year earlier. Orders from overseas rose 4.6 pct from the previous month to 52.51 bln yen, and added 15.8 pct year-on-year, the association said. For the January-June period, orders rose 16.2 pct from the previous year to 672.5 bln yen. Domestic orders in the six months to June added 17.4 bln yen year-on-year to 373.77 bln yen and orders from overseas also gained 14.7 pct to 298.73 bln, the JMTBA said.
