German manufacturing orders rose a seasonally adjusted 2.7 pct in May from April, according to preliminary data from the Economy and Labour Ministry. Economists, on average, had forecast a rise of 1.0 pct. The ministry said the orders were boosted mainly by a 5.0 pct jump in foreign orders, with domestic orders nudging 0.5 pct higher. But it said a recovery of domestic demand over the past months is a positive signal, with domestic consumer goods orders rising for an eighth consecutive month in May, up 0.4 pct month-on-month. On a two-monthly basis, orders dipped a seasonally adjusted 0.2 pct in April and May from February and March, with domestic orders up 0.7 pct and foreign orders down 1.1 pct, the ministry said.
