Euro zone retail sales rose 1.1 pct in May from April, and were up 2.0 pct year-on-year, EU statistics office Eurostat said. Economists polled by AFX News had forecast a month-on-month rise of 0.4 pct and an increase of 0.6 from a year earlier. Month-on-month, Eurostat said retail sales of food, drinks and tobacco rose 2.2 pct, while the non-food sector posted an increase of 0.5 pct. From a year earlier, food, drinks and tobacco sales were up 2.0 pct, while non-food sector sales rose 1.8 pct.
