4 July 2005, 14:37  German G8: Forex Not Central Issue At Gleneagles

The Group of Eight industrialized nations won't discuss foreign-exchange rates as a centerpiece issue at an upcoming leaders summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, a German government official said Monday. "It might be that it will be discussed," said Bernd Pfaffenbach, deputy economics minister and German Gerhard Schroeder's so-called "sherpa" on G8 issues. "But it will most certainly not be the central issue at the summit." Speaking ahead of the July 6-8 meeting, he said foreign-exchange issues would only be key in case of some severe emergency, which he doesn't see at the present time.
