4 July 2005, 11:17  Tokyo shares close slightly higher

Share prices closed slightly higher, helped by gains among exporters such as car and chip makers with the dollar remaining at an 11 month high against the yen, dealers said. The Stock Average closed up 21.42 points or 0.2 pct at 11,651.55, gaining for the fifth Nikkei 225 consecutive day. The broader TOPIX index of all First Section issues finished up 4.29 points or 0.4 pct at 1,186.09, also fifth straight day of gaining. At the market closing, the dollar was quoted at 111.57 yen. Gainers overwhelmed decliners 1,060 to 435, with 153 issues unchanged. But overall, stock prices remained top-heavy and traded volume fell to 1.3 bln shares, down from 1.5 bln Friday. "There's no strong incentives among investors to move actively, as companies' results are all out now." said Ryuta Otsuka, strategist at Tokyo Securities Co Ltd.
