UK car production fell to its lowest since January 2003 in June, according to the Office for National Statistics. On a seasonally adjusted basis, car output in the three months to June fell by 4.9 pct compared with the three months to March and by 4.3 pct on the same period a year earlier, ONS said. In the latest three months, production allocated for exports fell by 2.6 pct when compared with the previous three months, which left it 1.0 pct higher year-on-year. Car production for the domestic market again fell sharply, reaching its lowest since the series began in January 1999, ONS said. Output for the home market was down 10.8 pct from the previous three months and by 16.6 pct year-on-year. Meanwhile, total commercial vehicle production for the three months to June rose by 5.7 pct from the previous three months and by 9.8 pct year-on-year.
