The consumer climate index for June was at 4.3 points, down from 4.8 in May, according to a monthly survey by GfK market research. Last month, GfK had forecast the June index to total 4.4 points. GfK also said it expects the index to fall to 3.5 points in July. It said the June index fell because the mood among Germans to make plans to buy big-ticket items has dropped, even though their expectations on the economy and personal incomes have slightly improved compared to last month. GfK added that there is no sign of an improvement in consumer sentiment despite the early federal elections scheduled for autumn this year.
