15 June 2005, 17:37  Jean-Claude Trichet: nterest rates are at appropriate levels

European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet repeated Wednesday that interest rates are at appropriate levels, and the ECB isn't preparing markets for a rate cut or a rate increase. Public and private surveys show inflation expectations converging at around 1.9% to 2.0%, Trichet said in a contribution to France's Le Monde newspaper to be published Thursday. "These objective surveys show that we are doing what is necessary to ensure stability and credibility, no less no more. And that is why the governing council considers our rates to be appropriate," Trichet said.
