The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday morning. Gold rose.
The euro was quoted at US$1.2255, down from US$1.2312 in late New York trading Tuesday. Other dollar rates:
--108.62 Japanese yen, up from 108.50
--1.2491 Swiss francs, up from 1.2477
--1.2573 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2546
The British pound was quoted at US$1.8132, down from US$1.8179.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of US$416.10 at midmorning, up from US$415.70 late Tuesday.
Gold traded in Zurich at US$416.10, up from US$415.50.
Gold fell US$0.60 in Hong Kong to US$416.95.
