9 May 2005, 16:27  U.S. dollar and gold prices rose

The U.S. dollar rose Monday morning against most other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices rose. The euro was quoted at $1.2840, down from $1.2849 Friday. Other dollar rates compared with late Friday included: 105.30 Japanese yen, up from 104.69; 1.2059 Swiss francs, up from 1.2042, and 1.2381 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2431. The British pound was quoted at $1.8844, down from $1.8941. Gold traded in London at $425.80 bid per troy ounce, up from $424.80 late Friday. In Zurich the bid was $425.75, up from $424.95. Gold fell $4.80 an ounce in Hong Kong to close at $425.25.
