20 May 2005, 17:33  U.S. stocks down

U.S. stocks were headed for opening losses Friday morning, taking a breather after a strong week that has seen the Nasdaq Composite Index rise to a two-month high. S&P futures were down 0.90 to 1,190.40 while S&P 500 futures lost 2 to 1,522 and Dow futures fell 11 to 10,485. The dollar, meanwhile, got a small lift against the euro after data showed France's economy grew less than expected in the first quarter, but the greenback edged down against the Japanese currrency. The dollar was last up 0.4% vs. the euro at $1.2582 and up 0.3% at 108.04 yen. With no economic news on the calendar, a flurry of merger activity was expected to hold investors' attention Friday.
