Savings into the UK's building societies in April rose to their highest level in four years, the Building Societies Association said today. It said net inflows into building societies stood at 1.42 bln stg in April 2005, up from 1.06 bln the year before. "April traditionally sees a significant inflow into building society savings accounts, as a result of the end of one ISA investment year and the beginning of another," said Adrian Coles, director general at the BSA. "Even so April 2005 was an outstanding month for building societies, with net inflows at their highest for four years," he added. "Mortgage lending has clearly stabilised," said Coles.
