13 May 2005, 15:20  U.S. dollar rose n European trading. Gold prices fell

The U.S. dollar rose Friday morning against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices fell. The euro was quoted at $1.2639, down from $1.2713 Thursday. Other dollar rates compared with rates late Thursday included: 107.08 Japanese yen, up from 106.66; 1.2225 Swiss francs, up from 1.2151, and 1.2532 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2492. The British pound was quoted at $1.8555, down from $1.8637. Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $421.45 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, down from $424.30 on Thursday. In Zurich the bid price was $420.50, down from $424.05. Gold fell $4.20 in Hong Kong to close at $421.75. Silver opened in London at $6.90 bid per troy ounce, down from $6.99.
